Sunly, the developer of the Raba solar park, signed a construction contract with Smartecon, as a result of which one of the most powerful solar parks in Estonia will be built in Pärnu County. The capacity of the park will be 45 megawatts.
Magno Kure, founder and CEO of Smartecon, notes that the park will be one of the largest in Estonia. If the Raba solar park were to come to Latvia, it would be the largest park built by our southern neighbours, as the renewable energy market there arose only 1.5 years ago. Kure admits that Lithuania, which has the most developed solar energy market in the Baltics, does not have such powerful parks either. “It’s a powerful park even in the context of old Europe,” Kure says.
“The agreement with Sunly will definitely open up new markets for us. Sunly is strong and knowledgeable, and the agreement with them shows our credibility. The interest was mutual. We have been familiar with the people of Sunly for a long time, because the Estonian renewable energy market is so small that everyone knows everyone. Obviously, the decisive factor in choosing a builder was our good reputation in the construction of parks, and secondly, our ability to complete the connection process, i.e. to carry out the necessary tests, which is a very difficult process in a park of this size,” says Kure. He adds that the construction contract shows that it is also possible to find a builder in Estonia within the framework of such a large project and does not necessarily have to swing abroad.
“We are pleased to announce our cooperation with Smartecon – a significant milestone in our commitment to a sustainable future. The beginning of the construction of the Raba solar park marks another step forward for Estonia towards our mission to accelerate the transition to clean energy in the Baltic States and Poland,” said Erkki Kallas, Development and Production Manager at Sunly.
The installation of the fence began on July 14, and the construction of Raba Park will begin on August 28. According to Kure, it is difficult to say whether construction will take place throughout the winter, because snow and cold weather can cause problems at certain stages of construction, but this has been taken into account when making schedules.
Sunly AS is an independent electricity producer developing solar, onshore and offshore wind energy and storage projects. The company’s team is working towards a carbon-neutral future and energy security, and the production of renewable energy in the Baltic States and Poland helps to achieve these goals.
Smartecon has more than 10 years of experience in the field of solar energy. During this time, more than 1000 solar power plants in as many as 5 countries were designed and built, with a total value of more than 50 million euros. The company continues to plan and implement expansion to other European countries.
